Pleasant View Elementary School District (PVESD) maintains a pool of qualified substitute employees to provide support when regular staff members are absent. Substitute positions are on an on-call, as-needed basis and are not guaranteed work.

Certificated Substitutes Teachers
Qualifications
To be eligible to substitute teach at PVESD, applicants must: 
  • Be cleared through the Tulare County Office of Education (TCOE).   For clearance information and application, please visit the TCOE website.
  • Possess a valid 30-day Emergency Substitute Permit or a Valid Teaching Credential
  • Complete Live Scan fingerprint clearance through TCOE.
District Requirements
Once cleared through TCOE, applicants must submit:
  • Completed Edjoin application requesting placement on the PVESD substitute list (Red Rover).
  • Current Tuberculosis (TB) clearance. 
  • Mandated Reporter Training Certificate dated on or after July 1 of the current school year.
  • Sexual Harassment Prevention Training Certificate compliant with SB 1343.

​Requirements
Applicants must submit:

​Additional Position Requirements
Instructional Aides
  • Associate's Degree (AA, AS, or equivalent), or a higher degree, or
  • Completion of at least 48 semester units (or the equivalent quarter units) of college coursework, or
  • Passing score on the Instructional Aide Assessment, demonstrating knowledge of reading, writing, and mathematics.
  • Assessment information is available through the Tulare County Office of Education (TCOE).
Cafeteria Assistants
  • May be required to obtain a Food Handler Card or other required food safety certification. 

Important Information
  • Only applicants with complete application packets will be considered.
  • Qualified applicants will be contacted by the Human Resources Department to complete the onboarding process.
  • New substitute employees are generally not added after April 30 of each school year. 
  • Applicants who complete the hiring process after April 30 will be considered for placement on the substitute list beginning in August of the following school year. 
  • Substitute positions are generally not available during break periods (winter, summer, spring) unless special projects or assignments become available. 


Expectation for Active Substitute Employees
Once approved as a substitute, employees are expected to: 
  • Regularly accept available assignments through Red Rover.
  • Maintain current contact information and required certifications.
  • Notify the Human Resources Department if they expect to be unavailable for an extended period.
  • Maintain a professional attendance record by avoiding frequent cancellations after accepting assignments.
The Human Resources Department periodically reviews substitute activity. Substitutes who remain inactive for an extended period, consistently decline available assignments, or frequently cancel accepted assignments may be removed from the active substitute list at the District's discretion. ​
